"Biblical" Theology #1

Sometimes I have these wildly satirical thoughts that highlight bad theology in unconventional ways. I think of it as the essence of tongue in cheek.

You know that quote, "Work like you don't need money, Love like you've never been hurt, And dance like no one's watching"?

Well, today, I was in the kitchen, dancing like no one was watching, because no one actually was watching. I thought, "I don't mind looking stupid if no one sees me."

But then, I realized that God was watching me. He was watching me look dumb. And...I bet he was laughing at me. I got really indignant. After all, here's God, Supreme Being of the universe, who never looks stupid, laughing at me.

So, I don't think I can ever dance with abandon again. Because God would see me and laugh. If there's anything I don't want to do, it's make a fool of myself in front of God.

How depressing is that?

Karen,

I stumbled across your blog about a month ago and have been reading it ever since. Your beliefs and views seem to line up pretty well with my own. And may I say your blog is a pleasure to read!

As to God laughing at you...
I wouldn't let that stop you from dancing with abandon. I think God probably enjoys watching us enjoy ourselves, even if we look foolish. And might I add that the concept of God laughing is absolutely delightful. When I think God laughing I feel like I'm going to burst with joy and gladness. Oh, to hear Him roar!

Many blessings,
Sophie

Karen,
When we are fools "dancin' fools" we are fools for Christ. I am with Sophie dance with abandon and as you enjoy yourself know that our all seeing God takes delight in you His daughter.
Soon, we can do a little jig together in TX.
See you there. Mrs. Mullaney

:P

I thought being "upset" about God seeing me dancing highlighted (by way of silence) the beautiful irony (and truth) that God sees everything .

Yeah...that was just my initial reaction. Don't worry. It's not like you can always help dancing. =)

Instead of writing about how God's seeing you dance should make you want to dance more, I'll just tell you two things I thought.

1. The quote is from Satchel Paige, who pitched into his late fifties. He's one of the coolest people ever.

2. Michal's embarrassment at David's dancing...
